What is a Comprehensive Land Use Plan
Land use plans are a requirement of the Coastal Area Management Act. It collaborates with other existing plans and polices to provide a snapshot of the jurisdiction and provides long-range growth techniques. The General Assembly requires local governments to have a reasonably maintained comprehensive plan or land use plan in order to adopt and enforce zoning. Growth patterns of future land use within the municipalities are identified. The land use plan serves as a guideline to the community's vision and helps balance the needs of varying land uses in a way that protects the economic and environmental assets of a community is a core principle of land use plans.

IMAGINE 2040 COMPREHENSIVE PLAN
The City of Boiling Spring Lakes has begun the process of updating the Comprehensive Land Use Plan. This process will include research, analysis, and opportunities for residents to provide direction on future priorities through surveys, stakeholder meetings, and public meetings. The update process began last month with a presentation to the Planning Board and a community survey. We are happy to announce we've received more than 300 survey responses!
Extensive public participation is a key component of any planning process, and we want to hear from you throughout the development of this Comprehensive LUP. Please be sure to check back regularly. Meeting details will be announced as they are scheduled, and project materials will be posted as they are developed. Through the IMAGINE 2040 COMPREHENSIVE PLAN project, the plan update will serve as a guide for elected and appointed officials and City staff when making significant land use decisions and in directing policy and investment.
