Please take notice that the city has received the Certificate of Final Approval to Modify Upper (Allen Creek) Dam from North Carolina DEQ Dam Safety. This certifies that the area upstream of the dam can now start to be impounded (filled) with water. The city has made a follow-up inspection of the area and closed the gate valve for the dam yesterday morning, July 21, 2026. It will take several weeks for the lake to fill, but it may be sooner based on weather conditions.
