IMPORTANT DAMS UPDATE
The City was informed by our Engineering Consultant that work would have to be stopped at the Pine Lake Dam site due to an issue that has arisen. During the rainfall that the City experienced on June 14th , it was observed that the Pine Lake water levels did not appear to be correct. The City immediately contacted the Contractor, our Consulting Engineers and the Design Engineers. The Contractor verified that the dam had been built to design specifications and elevation specifications dictated by the reconstruction plan. The City then asked our Consulting Engineers to verify the elevation of the Pine Lake Dam. Based on the reports we have received as of now, while the Contractor built the dam to the elevation on the plans, that elevation appears to be incorrect. The City has not yet been given a full explanation of how this happened. However, the Design Engineer will be at the July 1st meeting to discuss this with the Board of Commissioners.
While this is frustrating for all, please allow us the time to work through a resolution. In the interim, the City is looking to continue to move toward paving the North Lake Dam site and determine temporary measures to open up the roadway over Pine Lake Dam in an effort to get E. Boiling Spring Road open as soon as possible.
I want to emphasize that work continues at the North Lake Dam site and the Sanford Dam site. At this point, the City has asked the engineering team to verify that the design and elevations at North Lake Dam, Sanford Dam and Upper Dam are all correct and the engineering team has confirmed that they are. The problem only exists, to the City’s knowledge, at Pine Lake Dam. Please understand this is not what anyone wanted and the City will work diligently on the Pine Lake Dam issue and to get E. Boiling Spring Road open as soon possible.
