Flood Damage Prevention Ordinance Update
The City has updated its Flood Damage Prevention Ordinance to incorporate state-mandated updates and to expand the areas in which flood hazard regulations apply.
Under the updated ordinance, development within areas identified on the North Carolina Emergency Management (NCEM) Advisory Flood Hazard Data map will be regulated. Development within these areas will require compliance with the City's Flood Damage Prevention Ordinance. Check the NCEM interactive map viewer to see if your property is located within an area identified in the advisory flood data.
Under the updated ordinance, development within Zone X (shaded), or the 0.2% annual chance floodplain, will also now need to comply with the requirements of the City's Flood Damage Prevention Ordinance. Property owners can visit the North Carolina Flood Risk Information System (FRIS) to locate their property and review available flood hazard maps.
If you need assistance locating your property or interpreting the maps, please contact the Planning & Zoning Department at (910) 294-0996. Our staff will be happy to help!
