CODE ENFORCEMENT OFFICER

The City of Boiling Spring Lakes is hiring a full-time Code Enforcement Officer.

The Code Enforcement Officer performs a wide variety of tasks and duties as related to the overall enforcement of the City’s codes and ordinances, including zoning, nuisance, minimum housing, and matters of health and safety. The Code Enforcement Officer works closely with the general public to provide customer service on code issues and must exercise appropriate firmness, tact, and courteousness in carrying out duties. 

The ideal candidates for this position should be highly motivated and able to work independently with minimal supervision. Work requires considerable knowledge of North Carolina General Statutes governing land use, zoning, and nuisance regulations, as well as North Carolina General Statutes governing variance, appeal, and Board of Adjustment regulations. Incumbents should be proficient in detailed report writing and conflict resolution.

The individual shall perform inspections to ensure compliance with ordinances, and takes appropriate enforcement action when violations and/or civil penalties have not been resolved. Work also includes interpreting and explaining ordinances and codes to the public and working with owners to comply with rule and regulations.

Interested parties must submit information pertaining to their qualifications to the City, including but not limited to: a high school diploma or education equivalent, minimum of 3 years of experience in the administration and enforcement of local government ordinances and regulations. Possession of Certified Zoning Official (CZO) certification preferred.

Classification:            FSLA Non-Exempt

Salary range:              DOQ
