Paving Projects to Begin on February 17, 2020

The City announced today that a Notice to Proceed has been issued to Highland Paving of Leland, NC for $ 1.23 million in paving work in the City starting on February 17, 2020.  The contract provides the company 45-days to complete the work but inclement weather can extend that time period if requested by the contractor and approved by the City.

“The Board of Commissioners awarded a paving contract to Highland Paving at their December 3, 2019 meeting.  The city has $ 1,266,103 available at this time for paving including $ 846,798 in FEMA funding and $ 210,750 in funds from the $ 25 Motor Vehicle Tax implemented by the Board of Commissioners on July 1, 2018.  Streets to be repaved are: Pine Lake Drive, Queens Road, Nassau Road, Crystal Road and potions of Pine Road.  Depending on available funding at the completion of those roads, the contactor will move to Beaufort Road and Blueberry Road” stated City Manager Jeff Repp.  “A meeting was held with approximately 25 residents of Pine Lake, Nassau and Crystal last evening who will see the road expanded from 18’ to 20’ as part of the project.  Questions were addressed involving how the contractor will tie into driveways, traffic control and placement of mailboxes after construction.”

Attending the meeting for the City were Commissioner Thomas Guzulaitis, Alex Labinsky, PE of McGill Associates, Michael Mack, Public Works Director and Earl Tharp who will be the project inspector for the City on this project.
